The camps for immigrants
A significant part of the refugees who came to Finland in 2015 are men from Muslim background. Many of them are tired of how the society works in their homeland. Some are also critical towards the religion, Islam, because it has given people lower standards of living.
The refugees expect that we Finns behave a proper way as a Christian should. They also expect us to tell about our faith. That is our responsibility to tell them about our Christian heritage, since we have many examples of it: forgiveness after Civil War in 1918-1919, giving independence to tenant farmers etc.
We Christians have a lot to give to these newcomers. We can show them the way to create a God who provides free forgiveness of sins and gives meaning to life. In addition, we have a society that is based on Christian values more or less:
- All the people are equal and have equal voting rights
- Broad public rights and freedom of choice
- Many functions of our society are based on trust and goodwill
We can show the refugees an alternative way to live, not just another religion. We can train them so they can go back to their own country and work there for the good of their own nation. It will be hard for them to integrate to Finland and it does not even make sense to try, as they do not have their families here and that's why they are going to miss back to their homeland.
And what is more, integrating the newcomers to church is the best way we can help them integrate to Finland: as an immediate consequence they will have love towards everyone, both Finland and their homeland. According to statistics, those rerugees who are well integrated to local society have been in touch with some Christian church.
